説明By the church porch. The bell from the redundant church of Holy Trinity, Bury, Lancashire was obtained from the Keltek Trust and bought to replace the much worn 1708 sixth bell at Allesley. It was cast by J. Taylor of Loughborough in 1907 in memory of Jane Wilson, the wife of the first vicar of Holy Trinity and was given by her sister. It bears the following inscription: -May JESUS CHRIST be praisedTo the glory of Godand in memoryof a loved sisterJane Wilsonwidow of the first vicarof Holy Trinity Church BuryBorn 6 Nov. 1842. Died 29 July 1906R. I. P.The, now redundant, church of Holy Trinity, Bury, Lancashire was built between 1863 and 1865 at a cost of about £5,500. It was designed by the Lancaster architect Edward Graham Paley. The grade II listed building has now been sold for re-development.The first vicar of Holy Trinity was the 35 year old Rev. Frederick Wilson who had been born in Weymouth, Dorset. On April 7th 1863 Frederick married Jane Parks at St Mary’s church Bury. Jane was a local girl, the daughter of Bury G.P. John Parks and his wife Sarah Ann. She was one of at least eight siblings, not all of whom may have survived childhood. She had herself been baptised at St. Mary’s, Bury in 1842.By 1871 the couple, now established at the living of Holy Trinity, had a son and a daughter, Herbert and Lucy. In 1876, after thirteen years at Holy Trinity, Frederick was appointed as Vicar of Sledmere, near Driffield in Yorkshire. Sadly, Frederick Wilson died on 17th August 1877 after a short illness, at the early age of 47. Even so, in that short time, by his zealous labours, he had endeared himself to his new parishioners. In the 1881 census Jane, his widow, a teacher, is to be found living in Great Driffield, Yorkshire with her late husband’s clergyman brother Robert Wilson, who is curate at Middleton on the Wold. By 1891 Jane is living in Scarborough, still with her brother in law Robert, now retired. Also in the same house is Robert’s daughter Isabella Wilson and Jane’s niece Ada Grundy, both governesses.By the time of the 1901 census Jane is alone, lodging in Scarborough. Her final illness started in February 1906 when she returned to Bury to be nursed by her sister and daughter. She died on the 29th July 1906 at the age of 63 at the home of her sister Mary Alice Martyn at 32, Heywood Street, Bury. Jane Wilson is buried at Sledmere, Yorkshire.Holy Trinity must have been dear to both Jane and her family, as in 1907 her sister Mary Alice Martyn gave to the church a new bell and bell cote in memory of Jane. The bell was made by J. Taylor, bell founders of Loughborough and housed in a small wooden bell cote made of English oak, sited in the valley between the roofs of the chancel and the vestry. It was dedicated and first rung on Easter Sunday (31st March) 1907.
