| 説明 | North Island Volcanic Plug 28 Oct 2005We hiked up a volcanic plug we saw while driving. I glimpsed it, and said to myself: "I wonder how to get up there." We took a small road and navigatedto the base, with less trouble than I thought (and much less than Mary Ellen thought.) We pulled off to the side and hike up on a farm path, cows had been around and through some of the fences. Eventully we came to a gate and were on public land. We walked up hill, saw some interesting lichens, and frerns. We also found a little cave, perhaps it was a vent from the volcano long ago. We also saw a large-diameter fig (ficus) tree. We spent about an hour going up and down, it was good to stretch our legs.i103005 068 |
