説明 | Native cool-season perennial densely-tufted grass-like sedge to 1 m tall. Leaves are stiff, strap-like, smooth and hairless. Flowerheads are raceme-like with usually 2-5 (1-8) drooping narrow spikes on fine branches per node; glumes are yellow brown to red-brown when mature. Flowering is in spring to mid-summer. Found in moist areas, such as poorly drained hillsides, low-lying flats and next to streams. Native biodiversity. Can be an indicator of poor drainage. Can form dense stands that provide shelter for native animals, but are also difficult to manage in a grazing situation. Can be controlled with herbicides, but old growth limits their effectiveness and plants are difficult to slash due to their density. Rarely grazed by stock, although stock will nibble the leaf tips occasionally. Abundance is favoured by set stocking regimes. |
