| 説明 | 30 August 2016. Another brief visit to the "Enlightenment Room" of the British Museum. This time with our friends Suresh Awasthi and Dave Wadcock. Suresh was intrigued to see this footware collected by Hans Sloane. Among the items a decorated Indian paduka - a wooden sandal with a post which is held between the big and second toe.. __________________________________§ Wikipedia page about the Paduka. § The British Museum information page about this footware explains that Hans Sloane probably obtained the Paduka from his contacts among employees of British trading companies on the Coromandel coast of south-eastern India. The other three items shown are a brown leather shoe from Morocco; silk slippers from Japan; and an espadrille (alpargata, rope-soled sandal) from the Pyrenees. |
