説明 | The tall-statured and rhizomatous Carex utriculata and the bunched Carex kelloggii were the two most common wetland sedges along the John Muir trail system, including here along the shores of Gladys Lake. They often dominated the margins of ponds and lakes. Carex utriculata usually stood about a meter tall whereas Carex kelloggii about half that height. The widely spreading and distinctly beaked perigynia combined with broad green leaf blades are distinctive of Carex utriculata. The smoke in the background was from the Lion fire to the west of the Mammoth and Reds Meadow area. |
