説明 | Dolderbahn-Betriebs AG: in Zurich there is a small rack railway line, the Dolderbahn, linking the Römerhof Square (446 meters a.s.l.) with Adlisberg hill (606 meters a.s.l.). It has a length of 1,328 km, a track of metric gauge and a maximum declivity of 196 ‰. The line was opened in 1895 as a funicular, which closed in 1972 to be transformed into a rack railway. It reopened in 1973. The line is single track and has one crossing loop. Is operated by two four-wheel electric railcars (Bhe 1/2 1 and 2), which were built by SLM, BBC and Gangloff in 1973.The crossing loop in the middle of the line has two special flexible switches. These switches are not moving points, but it is the whole of the track that moves: the two rails and the rack rail thanks to its flexibility. With this system, structure of the switch is simplified and both the tracks and the rack rail maintain its continuity without interruption. |
