I took them on 12 September 2008 in Ladysmith Road N17 when I was with a local resident who uses a wheelchair. The photos show the roadway and pavement on the western side of the street north of the junction with Burbridge Way N17.Ladysmith Road was recently resurfaced - and the traffic markings repainted. The level of the tarmac along the section shown in the photos has been raised to the same level as the pavement. As this has not been done consistently, I assume it's an error. In the absence of dropped kerbs on the street corners, this has some advantage for someone using a wheelchair or crossing the road pushing a baby buggy. However, it also means there's no clear division between roadway and pavement for part of this street. ● So it's now easier to park partly on the pavement, either deliberately or by mistake. This may lead to broken paving slabs. ● There could be disputes about parking tickets.● Because there's no camber and no gutter on a part of the road, water and litter will simply "find its level". We haven't had heavy rain since the resurfacing, so I don't know whether rainwater will pool or drain into the gullies as usual. Can you please tell me whether or not this resurfacing work was inspected and signed-off by Haringey staff before the contractors went off site? If so, is this standard of work within the acceptable specification? |
