| 説明 | (photo generously provided by Robert Lillie for geoscience education purposes)--------------------------------------Black Diamond Pool is a medium-sized hot spring in the Sapphire Group (= Biscuit Basin) of Yellowstone's Upper Geyser Basin. It is normally calm but does have rare geyser eruptions. This photo depicts a violent eruption ("hydrothermal explosion") in the late morning of 17 May 2009. Coincidentally, this occurred during a geology field trip focusing on hydrothermal explosions in Yellowstone. The eruption expelled dark gray to black water rich in sediments. Rocky gravel was strewn about outside the periphery the crater. |
