説明 | SHERIDAN, Ore. -- With financial incentives from the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and science-based guidance from the Yamhill Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD), Leo Krick is improving oak habitat on his ranch with conservation practices like brush management, controlled fire, and tree thinning. Leo is one of several landowners who is restoring native white oak habitat through a new project called the North Willamette Valley Upland Oak Restoration Partnership. This five-year, $5.9 million project offers assistance to landowners in Yamhill and Polk counties to restore native oaks and improve habitat for the endangered Fender's blue butterfly. The project is funded through USDA's Regional Conservation Partnership Program. NRCS photo by Tracy Robillard. |
