説明 | U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill today met Missouri’s student delegates of National History Day as they compete with students from around the nation this week at the University of Maryland, College Park.McCaskill welcomed 60 students from the state, and encouraged them to make the most of their time here in Washington, D.C., where they will focus on American history. She pressed them to continue working hard, and wished them luck in their competition. The group also discussed the important legacy of former U.S. President and Missouri Senator Harry S. Truman, whose Senate seat McCaskill now holds.“It’s incredibly inspiring to see how passionate these young men and women are about the work they are doing,” said McCaskill, a product of Missouri public schools. “This next generation of Missourians continues to impress me, and I’m confident they’ll prove to their competitors why we’re called the Show-Me State.”National History Day is a year-round academic program that encourages students in grades 6-12 to engage in original historical research. Students produce papers, exhibitions, documentary films, performances, and websites to enter in local, regional, and state competitions. The winners of those competitions are Washington D.C. this week for the culmination of the year’s program. |
