説明 | This is a watercolour rendition of the place where Laura Secord, née Ingersoll (1775-1868), crossed Twelve-Mile Creek near St. Catharines on June 23, 1813. She walked 20 miles through the bush in enemy-held territory to warn the British soldiers and Mohawk warriors of an impending American attack. Together, they successfully repulsed the invaders at the Battle of Beaver Dams. Her Loyalist husband, James, had been unable to assist her due to wounds sustained in the Battle of Queenston Heights.
