説明 | Fisherites reticulatus (Owen, 1844) - eroded fossil calcareous algae in fossiliferous limestone from the Ordovician of Missouri, USA. (Charlotte & Bruce Gibson collection)This species is also known as Receptactulites oweni.Receptaculitids are an extinct group of shallow-water marine organisms that have been reported from most of the Paleozoic (Ordovician to Permian). They have a calcareous skeleton with a broadly inflated discoidal shape having a sunflower-like pattern. The taxonomic affiliations of receptaculitides are uncertain. These fossils have been referred to as sponges or algae. Modern researchers seem to agree that receptaculitids are calcareous algae. More specific taxonomic assignments remain controversial.Classification: Plantae incertae sedis, Receptaculitaphyceae, Receptaculitales, ReceptaculitaceaeStratigraphy: Kimmswick Formation, Katian Stage, Upper OrdovicianLocality: unrecorded/undisclosed site attributed to near the town of Ste.
