| 説明 | Gneiss in the Precambrian of New York State, USA.Gneiss is a relatively common, foliated-textured, high-grade metamorphic rock. It consists of alternating bands of light and dark minerals. The precursors to gneiss are generally schist, granite, or granite-like rocks.The outcrop shown here is a glaciated knob of Proterozoic-aged gneiss in Port Leyden, New York. According to Darling & Florence (1995), the gneisses of this area vary considerably in mineral content.
