| 説明 | By chance, I arrived in Norwich the very day they had celebrated the 227th anniversary of Huntington's birth. The Attorney General of Connecticut (representing the Governor) laid a wreath upon the tomb.Huntington was a lawyer who married a minister's daughter and they took care of (three "adopted" children - they had no children of their own.He was elected to represent Connecticut at the First Continental Congress and signed the Declaration of Independence. Additionally, he served as a legislator, judge, Chief Justice of Connecticut and Governor of the "Constitution State" as well. Many people are buried in the Old Burial Ground - and many of them are "Huntington's". None are as notable as Samuel Huntington, however. He was considered a quiet consensus builder who inspired his countrymen and countrywomen by his fair-mindedness and his sound judgment. This house, where he lived, was built in 1783 |
