説明 | Introduced warm-season annual tufted ascending or semi-erect C4 grass to 60 cm tall. Leaves are broad, flat and hairless, except along the lower margins of the blade. Ligules are 1–2 mm long, membranous and truncate. Flowerheads are digitate to subdigitate with 2-13 fine branches (5-10 cm long). Spikelets are less than 2 mm long. The lower glume is minute or absent, the upper glume (2nd from left) is slightly shorter and narrower than the spikelet, the lower sterile lemma (left) is the same length as the spikelet and the fertile floret (3rd from left) is purplish-black at maturity. Flowers from spring to autumn. A native of Asia, it is found in lower fertility grasslands, or disturbed areas such as gateways, ploughed paddocks, riverbanks, roadsides and inner edges of mangrove swamps. A weed of disturbed areas. Increases under heavy set stocking or where the groundcover is otherwise kept short. Nothing is known of its feed value, but it is a small (but leafy) grass that forms only a minor component of any pasture and is probably of little importance to livestock. |
