| 説明 | 100 years ago today, on 6 February 1916, Tram Number 52 (then Number 7) was involved in a tragic accident on Bensham Bank in Gateshead when the brakes failed on the hill, injuring 10 people and killing four - including a soldier just back home on leave from The Great War. The site of the tragedy is at the end of our street and we often get public transport up the same hill ourselves so the story has always resonated.Last year I tried to drum up local interest in commemorating this tragic event but there was little wish to do anything.
