| 説明 | CAMP ITAMI, Japan – Army Command Sgt. Maj. Eric C. Dostie, command sergeant major, U.S. Army Japan (USARJ), met Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) Warrant Officer Akihiro Kanae, command sergeant major, JGSDF Western Army at Camp Itami, Japan, Feb. 22, 2016. Dostie and Kanae exchanged ideas to empower their respective noncommissioned officer (NCO) corps. Among the many topics discussed included integrating USARJ NCO instructors in the JGSDF’s Basic English language course, expanding the Japan Officer Exchange Program to senior NCOs, and enhancing the NCO corps’ role in bilateral training exercises. Dostie’s short but productive visit comprised a traditional Japanese luncheon followed by a tour of the JGSDF Middle Army museum. The museum’s collection showcased Japan’s proud military history while highlighting its plans to reconstruct the JGSDF regional armies into a more cohesive, rapidly deployable force. Dostie and Kanae exchanged gifts in a show of friendship that signified the closing months in their respective positions. Kanae plans to retire from the JGSDF in February 2017, while Dostie will say, “sayonara,” to Japan in March as he prepares for his next assignment as the command sergeant major for U.S. Army Central, a major command headquartered in Fort McPherson, Georgia, that boasts an area of responsibility of more than 20 countries in Southwest Asia and North Africa.
