| 説明 | Decor - Pawan Thai---My sister said that Pawan Thai did quite good Thai food, and since we were in the mood for something spicy, we gave it a try.The little area where the Springvale Market used to stand is not a Little Thailand, with grocery shops and four Thai restaurants! So far, Kao Gang is our favourite, and Pawan Thai might come a close second. Me Dee Thai didn't relaly suit our tastes but was busy as ever, and Larb Thai seems a little quiet.We were pleasantly surprised that they had the Stir-fried Crab Curry we had at Ying Thai 2, Lygon St, so that's what we ordered. We couldn't go pass the Pad Thai either.As it turned out, the curry crab was similar, but where Ying Thai 2 used a freshly pounded yellow curry paste, Pawan Thai substituted curry powder. The warm spiciness of dried spices was nice, especially when freshened up with Chinese celery, but it can't beat a freshly pounded spice paste.The Pad Thai was very well presented, wrapped in a fluffly egg omelette and garnished with a wedge of lemon, some bean sprouts and crushed peanuts. It tasted quite good, but perhaps a little wet, and the noodles a tad soggy. Although it must be said that the dish wasn't overly oily or greasy perhaps from the use of water or stock in preference to oil.We also noticed that the place was equally popular with Asians and Caucasians. After a brief pause following the Asian families, in comes in Caucasians with their BYO wines.
