説明 | Entrenched in a snow-covered hill, Gloria squeals to no one’s attention. So named by the U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command (RDECOM), the pork prototype, used for the first time in Allied Spirit IV, is an electronic training device that looks, sounds and even smells like an actual pig. Its intent is for Allied Soldiers, training at the U.S. Army’s Joint Multinational Readiness Center in Hohenfels Training Area (JMRC HTA), Germany, to recognize a contaminated area and take preventive action. Previous props weren’t as realistic as Gloria, says Eric Heilman, science advisor for the 7th Army Joint Multinational Training Command (JMTC), U.S. Army Europe. This version better resembles a recognizable farm animal to better alert Soldiers approaching it, Heilman explained. (U.S. Army National Guard photo by Staff Sgt. Eddie Siguenza) |
