He both planned and led the:- Successful military operations during the Austro-Prussian War of 1866.- Prussian armies in the Franco-Prussian War (1870-71).In many ways, it was the military genius of Moltke the Elder that made possible the creation of the powerful German Empire, in 1871, on behalf of a defeated France and a reduced Austro-Hungarian empire. For the next 40 years, Germany remained the major power in continental Europe. |
