説明 | A common and widespread tree or treelet in the savannas of South America. The corky bark independently evolved in this species as an adaptation to resist fire (i.e., corky bark tends not to evolved in a phylogenetically conserved manner). The broad leaves, corky bark, and "split" fruit typical of Apocynaceae distinguish this species from the other woody species in this area. This patch of savanna is surrounded by caatinga vegetation. This site lies along the road west of Guiné towards the trailhead that lead up into the Chapada Diamantina to Ladeira do Beco, Bahia, Brazil. Tree identified by Domingos Cardoso. |
