説明 | Judging by its size, the bear on the right is probably a female, perhaps the mother of the larger male on the left. According to Wikipedia, a boar (adult male) weighs around 350–700 kg (772–1,543 lb), while a sow (adult female) is about half that size. We were close enough to be able to hear any sounds the bears may have made but heard nothing. No growling or anything. Which may indicate the bears were related. The sparring was clearly of a friendly nature. Photographed from a small boat floating around Barter Island, in the Beaufort Sea on the northeast coast of Alaska. Our pilot, Ketil Reitan, was exceptionally good at keeping our craft close to the bears without disturbing them. He kept bears within easy camera reach for us for about 2 hours and 45 minutes. To learn more about the problems facing Beaufort Sea polar bears, see: www.nytimes.com/2016/12/18/science/polar-bears-global-war... |
