説明 | KOFU CITY, Japan – More than a dozen Soldiers and families from Headquarters and Headquarters Company, U.S. Army Japan and I Corps (Forward) immersed themselves in Japan's classic cuisine, scenic landscape and fine wine during this year's So-You-Kai event Nov. 9, 2015. Sponsored by the NCO Association from the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force's (JGSDF) Ground Staff Office (GSO), the event, loosely translated as “friendly noncommissioned officer association,” aims to enhance bilateral relations between the U.S. and Japan by introducing American service members and their families to their host nation's rich history and heritage. The Soldiers, spouses and children gathered at Camp Zama and boarded a GSO chartered bus bound for Yamanashi Prefecture. In a span of eight hours, the group learned how make authentic Udon noodles, cooked a traditional Japanese lunch, hiked through the Shosenkyo Gorge, picked grapes at the vineyards of Miharashien and tasted wine offered exclusively from the Fujikko Winery. The Camp Zama community members also mingled with their JGSDF counterparts who had joined them on their journey. The group returned to Camp Zama that evening with full stomachs, breathtaking photos, fond memories and, in several instances, several bottles of wine. Photo by Sgt. John L.
