| 説明 | An utterly remarkable house dating, in its current guise, to 1886-1891.The current house replaced an earlier mansion that was barely 20 years old when it was demolished. That house had been built for Octavius Smith who disliked chimneys so much, he had a giant campanile built on the hill behind the house with flues running underground from each fireplace in the house... This arrangement wasn't a huge success, apparently. The campanile remains, converted into a clock tower.The current house was designed by Alexander Ross, with the interiors substantially embellished by John Kinross 1908-10 in rich C17th and Adam Revival styles.www.ardtornish.co.uk/ |
