| 説明 | I’m experimenting with a new idea I call ‘Wonderbots’, to see if I can bring characters to life by making art objects and puppets move, with the help of robots. My first prototype for this experiment is Indigo, the Wonder Duck. For this test, I mounted a decoy duck decorated by Dr. Canard over a simple Arduino robot I built last night at Marin MakerSpace. This first test is encouraging: Indigo is rolling happily across our floor as if gliding on water -- until he senses an approaching obstacle, which causes him to turn back and change direction. It seems to have a mind of his own, poking his head in all sorts of unexpected places -- and getting stuck often against obstacles outside his sonar range. He doesn’t do so well on cobblestone, but it was fun to try.The restless robot I am using comes up with new moves that keep surprising me. And it's even more fun when you put a couple of these robots together in the same space, as they keep coming together, then avoiding each other. Here's a short video showing the robots in action: www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_WcmRzdvPgIn the next few days, I would like to build a few more Wonderbots and see how they behave when when they are brought together in the same space. Then we'll add a storyline, a backdrop, more lights and sounds, with impromptu dialog and music. I can’t wait to see them interact with each other. Stay tuned … To track my progress with this experiment, see my Wonderbots album on Flickr: www.flickr.com/photos/fabola/albums/72157660350909609And for more photos of the restless robots we built at Marin MakerSpace, see this photo album: www.flickr.com/photos/fabola/albums/72157660319241568 |
