| 説明 | The main temple on top of the Acropolis of Athens, Bedicated to Athena Parthenon, the patron goddess of Athens. The Parthenon was built between 447 and 438 BC and its sculptural decoration was completed in 432 BC. The temple is built in the Doric style and almost totally of marble. It has eight columns on each of the narrow sides and seventeen columns on each of the long ones. The central part of the temple, called the cella, sheltered the cult statue of Athena.The Parthenon retained its religious role over the centuries and was converted into a Byzantine church, a Latin church and a Muslim mosque.The Turks used it as a powder magazine when the Venetians attacked the Acropolis in 1687, one of the Venetian bombs fell on the Parthenon and destroyed a great part of the monument. |
