| 説明 | ... at least I think it is a Kestrel (Falco tinnunculus) rather than (eg) a Hobby, thanks to Julie's hint below. It has quite a chip out of its beak, and maybe that's why it was giving me that shy, downcast look. I'm not sure if Kestrels were ever used in falconry but they would be great at catching voles thanks to their UV vision that can pick up the trail of urine left behind these rodents. Vole pie? - not sure about that. This one was on display at the 2015 Henham Steam Fair.PS If you look at the full-size image I think you might be able to see the silhouette of the photographer reflected in its eye! |
