説明 | Every fall, the Service's Asheville Field Offices helps fifth-grade students in North Carolina's Yancey and Mitchell counties get outside and explore a stream in their community - the South Toe River for Yancey County students and the North Toe River for Mitchell County students. The students rotate through a series of educational stations, with the Service staffing the aquatic invertebrate station as these rivers are home to an endangered mussel, the Appalachian elktoe.Credit: Gary Peeples/USFWS |
