説明Fantastic stormy weather in the morning! There was even lighting and thunder!Taken from L24, 150 Lonsdale.Little did I know, it would get worse in the afternoon!---Summer storms hit Melbourne in the morning, and they got worse in the afternoon. For a while there, just after lunch, we couldn't see the building across the road from us. Checking the Bureau of Meteorology radar showed storms in the deep-red/crimson end of the scale!Photos:- Stormy Melbourne Summer - morning- Closed due to water damage - Holmesglen BWS- Evidence of flash flooding - Matthew Flinders HotelNews reports:- Storm causes flash flooding in Melbourne, AAP, Thursday December 20, 09:08 PM"Victoria has experienced some intense rainfall over short periods in the past 24 hours, which has caused water damage largely due to overflowing gutters and blocked drains," SES manager for state operations Tim Wiebusch said.Mr Wiebusch said the SES had responded to more than 850 calls for assistance since last night, with 750 of those coming between 4pm (AEDT) and 6pm today. The hardest hit areas include the Melbourne suburbs of Waverley (which had 140 separate storm tasks for SES crews), Moorabbin (104 tasks), Chelsea (45 tasks) and Nunawading (37 tasks). The city of Ballarat, 110km west of Melbourne, recorded 28 tasks.Torrential rain at Ocean Grove collapsed a bank storeroom roof.Melbourne's tallest building, the Eureka Tower, had to close the glass box observation area on the 88th floor because of the fierce winds.Known as The Edge, the glass cube which extends three metres from the side of the building and can withstand winds of up to 70 km/h, was shut down at the height of the storm.- Wild and Wooly Weather - Photos - The Age- Wild weather keeps coming, Matthew Burgess, with Miki Perkins, The Age, December 20, 2007 - 5:27PMEarlier, two trams were struck by lightning this morning, sparking commuter trouble on several routes across Melbourne.... The lightning strikes came amid rainfalls of between 10 and 20 millimetres across the state in the last 24 hours, with further thunderstorms expected today....The weather bureau is expecting further thunderstorms throughout the day, with storms now over the Bellarine Peninsula and south-eastern suburbs.Torrential rain is also predicted to hit drought-ravaged areas of the state on Friday evening and Saturday, with falls of about 50 millimetres forecast in many districts. Some local areas could see heavy falls of 100 to 150 millimetres.Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Richard Carlyon said the humid conditions meant the state was ripe for rainfall."With this very significant system approaching tomorrow we've got so much moisture in the air available to produce the heavy rain," he said."It's just so humid. If you step outside it's very sticky - similar to Queensland conditions for this time of year."
