The Common Hammer is natural of the America, Europe, Asia and África. In the America it is common from the Canada until Tierra del Fuego. This species is one of the night herons. This bird is more active during the twilight hours and the night, although you/he/she is not strange to see it during the day. He/she inhabits the banks of the deposits and courses of fresh water, brackish and salted. It frequents the swamps, the swamps, the beaches of sand where there are trees or palms and similar places. He/she is documented from the level of the sea until the 4400 elevation meters. These herons nest in colonies. The nest is a platform made of branches. The brood consists from two to four eggs cyan color. The Hammer has the red eyes, it seems that it is an adaptation to the night life. The posture is of October or November where the female is the responsible for the incubation. The male remains assisting her close until the chicks are born. The eggs, up to five, are of a blued green color and they measure 44 for 33 cm. |
