| 説明 | A visit to Apsley House at Hyde Park Corner in London.Discovered that you can't take photos inside the house, although I took some in the museum room.The house itself is full of portraits and historic furniture. I found that Wellington was given several portraits of Napoleon (Louis XVIII wanted to get rid of them during the French Restoration). Although they also had portraits of Louis XVIII and Charles X of France (maybe the later regimes of France didn't want a reminder of there failed restored monarchs!).There was also a portrait of George IV.The property is now managed by English Heritage (now known as Historic England - although staff were in EH uniforms).You can have an audio guide to listen to if you want to (I didn't).Apsley House is Grade I listed.Apsley House, Westminster TQ 2879 NW CITY OF WESTMINSTER PICCADILLY, Wl 88/7 (north side) No 149 (Apsley House) 5.2.70 GV I Mansion. Built 1771-8 by Robert Adam. Remodelled and enlarged 1828-9 by Benjamin and Philip Wyatt; further alterations 1853 by Philip Hardwick. Bath stone faced. Roof not visible. 3 storeys. 7 windows wide. Rusticated podium with centre 3 bays breaking forward to support pedimented Corinthian portico. Podium with arched entrances. Square headed architraved sash windows; French casements to first floor. Glazing bars. Corinthian pilaster treatment to corners, sides and rear, with dentil cornice to all four elevations. Fine interiors, including some original decorations by Adam Brothers, Wyatt's Waterloo Gallery, etc. The residence of the 1st Duke of Wellington. London, Vol I, N Pevsner.
