| 説明 | Morro Rock, and Morro Bay. The rock is the westermost of a series of round "sister" mountains that are all the remains u Miocene volcanoes that erupted when the earth's crust thinned when the range of mountains south of it -- which now run from the Santa Monicas to the Santa Ynez's... an east-west "transverse" range -- pivoted into position as they were caught between the northwest bound Pacific Plate and the relatively stationary North American Plate. The Northwest end of this range stopped moving, while the southeast end rotated clockwise around to the west, then north, into its current position, producing one of the few east-west ranges in the country. Volcanoes also erupted south of the current range position, and their remains can be found in the channel islands off Califonria's South Coast. |
