説明 | Did you know?-NIIC is the wildland fire community’s national radio and repeater cache.-NICC is made up of Eight Branches: Avionics, Communications Duty Office, Engineering and Development, Incident Communications Operations, Infrared, Maintenance, Rework/Supply, Technical Training.-NIFC radio cache is arguably the largest civilian radio cache in the world and has 11,000 handheld radios, 500 repeaters, and other communications equipment.-NICC Can support about 32,000 firefighters or 53 major disasters at one time.-Every year, the radio cache sends out kits to incidents across the country. In 2000, the cache cycled its inventory through about six times. Cycled eight times during 2005—due to hurricanes.-After use, radios returned are cleaned, reprogrammed, tested and repaired as needed. Systems can be processed and sent back out within 4-6 hours of being returned.-Radios can be issued on average 6-7 times per year, totalling about 70,000 radios being serviced and sent out in a busy year.-The computer check takes 6 minutes to complete versus about the 20 minutes it would take for a technician to perform the same check.-On average, 3% of returned radios have maintenance issues.-Radio cache has supported a large variety of incidents over the years. -‘AA’ batteries are an important aspect of wildland firefighting and communication in particular. During busy fire periods, some 384,000 AA batteries are used daily by firefighters, most of which power their handheld radios. |
