| 説明 | Champa wants to continue her education and to serve her community as this was her late mother’s dream. Champa is from an extremely poor background and her mother died when she was young. All her childhood she had to escape from early marriage and the horror of early pregnancy haunted her.As she did not compromise her right for education, the Diploma in Midwifery stands as an opportunity for Champa to fulfill her aim to serve the mothers and new-borns in her community with necessary and proper care. Champa wishes to make her family and community aware about the necessity and scope of maternal and new-born care and to fulfill the dreams her late mother had for her. In Bangladesh, 120,000 babies die every year in their first month, 1 in 19 children die before they reach 5 years old and 4 in 10 under-fives suffer from stunted growth.BackgroundThe Department of Midwifery and Nursing at the BRAC University, with support from UK aid and other international donors, has started the Community focused Diploma in Midwifery Programme. It is is the first of its kind as a private sector initiative in Bangladesh, in partnership with six non-governmental local organisations, situated in hard-to-reach under-served areas.
