| 説明 | Every one of Chicago's movable bridges needs somewhere for an operator to sit, and this octagonal cabin is that somewhere — a small architectural flourish built purely for function, since somebody has to watch the river traffic and throw the switch when a barge needs clearance. What makes it worth a second look is how much care went into a structure most pedestrians never notice: mint-green cast bronze framing, banks of divided-light windows on every face, and a peaked roof gone dark with decades of oxidation and grime.Below it, the round concrete pier tells a rougher story — streaked, stained, patched where the elements have had their way with it for the better part of a century. That contrast between the delicate ironwork above and the weathered mass below is really the whole picture: an ornamental cap holding on above a foundation that's clearly been doing hard, unglamorous work for a very long time.Cropping tight and shooting straight up isolates the house against the pale office tower behind it, letting the building's octagonal geometry and its patina read as the entire subject, no river or roadway needed to explain what it's for. |
