| 説明 | Chicago's river bridges are working machines disguised as landmarks — over three dozen of them span the main and south branches, most built in the early twentieth century when railroads and shipping still competed hard for the same waterway. This one's caught in the middle of its lift, black steel trusswork tilted skyward at an angle that turns an ordinary railroad crossing into something almost sculptural.Framing it from the water puts the bridge dead center, flanked by two very different eras of the skyline: the dark glass curtain wall and bold rooftop signage on the left reading straight out of the city's commercial past, and the pale stone and brick tower on the right carrying the ornament of an older residential building. Willis Tower rises behind them both, its antennae the tallest thing in the frame, with a construction crane doing its own quiet work of adding yet another layer to the skyline in progress.Overcast light flattens everything into soft grays and browns, which works in the bridge's favor — no harsh shadows competing with all that ironwork. It's a scene that only exists for a few minutes at a time, and then the span drops and the river traffic moves on. |
