| 説明 | Get close enough to any of Chicago's river bridges and the postcard version falls away fast. This is what a hundred years of lake-effect winters actually does to structural steel — flaking paint, streaked rust, rivets standing proud where the metal around them has worn thin. The Ohio Street placard survives intact, black and gold against all that decay, the one clean element in a frame otherwise given over to texture.Shooting up and across from water level turns the bridge into pure diagonal geometry: cross-bracing repeating in a rhythm of X-shapes, the underside receding into shadow while the top chord catches what flat daylight there is. There's no sky worth mentioning here, no skyline for context — just structure, close enough that the bridge stops being a bridge and starts being an abstraction of triangles and rust. It's a deliberate choice to leave out anything that would ground this in a wider view. The interest is entirely in the surface: what industrial steel looks like after a century of doing its job outdoors, unpainted promises quietly broken by weather, and how much visual noise a riveted truss can generate up close. |
