説明 | Native plant species are an essential part of a healthy ecosystem. They provide forage, cover, and habitat vital to native animals. The Buck Pasture Canyon restoration project on the Buckskin Mountains includes 930 acres on the BLM Arizona Strip District. The goal; reduce heavy fuel loading in the pinion-juniper woodland and restore critical mule deer winter range for both the Kaibab and Paunsagaunt mule deer herds while achieving Desired Plant Communities (DPC) conditions and restore closed canopy pinyon-juniper woodland to a vegetation community of increased biodiversity, vegetative cover and wildlife forage. The success of the project resulted from years of extensive planning, prescribed fire treatments, seeding and chaining to cover the seed mix which included everything from wheatgrass species, wild rye, flax, grama, ricegrass, clover, bitterbrush and saltbush.Funding for this project was a cooperative effort between the Bureau of Land Management, Southern Utah/Northern Arizona Mule Deer Initiative, Arizona Game and Fish Department, Arizona Strip Grazing Board, and the livestock permittee.Photo by BLM Arizona. |
