| 説明 | "Today I write about my experience as an ACE intern at the San Jaoquin River Gorge. In my observations of BLM’s SJRG I am confident of three things...1. Youth take center stage for the outreach efforts here thanks to support from management and a variety of specialists and support staff from the Bakersfield Field Office that go above and beyond their position descriptions. 2.That the Gorge is taking active efforts to continually enhance their connections to community in positive ways. 3. That I am grateful to be a part of the effort to make those connections a reality. This July I had the opportunity to participate in Fresno American Indian Health Project’s annual youth GONA (Gathering Of Native Americans) at Camp Sierra demonstrating the atl-atl, discussing lithics and speaking to youth and adults regarding BLM’s San Joaquin River Gorge and my ACE internship. This is the fourth year that the Gorge has participated in the GONA. I am proud to be involved in activities like the GONA which promote the health and well being of Native youth well representing ACE and the San Joaquin River Gorge. Each year the participation has grown with this year seeing 75 youth, representing tribes from throughout the United States. The GONA is an amazing time and place to create connections with Native youth, professionals doing great work in Indian Country, community members and elders from numerous tribes all focused on strengthening our Native community.”-Somer Shaw, ACE Intern for BLM’s San Joaquin River Gorge Special Recreation Management Area |
