| 説明 | Highway Glacier drains the Penny Ice Cap on Baffin Island's Cumberland Peninsula. The glaciers here empty into the Akshayuk Pass, which connects fjords on the north and south sides of the peninsula, and is a scenic climax on the order of a Yosemite. The ice cap is a remnant of the last ice age, when this whole scene (2.8 billion year old rock) was carved by the movement of ice piled a mile high on top of it. This is in the Auyuittuq National Park and one of the most spectacular, remote and barely-accessible places in the northern hemisphere. Also amazing to see from above halfway between London and Denver. Since it's just north of the Arctic Circle, the Sun won't see it at the Winter Solstice. |
