説明 | NEWSTEEL AUTUMN 1961SIR JOHN JAMES RETIRESAs we go to press, we have learned with tremendous regret that Sir John James, our highly respected Chairman, has decided to retire from the Chairmanship of the Corporation, a position which he has held for the past 30 years, and also from the Chairmanship of the principal Subsidiary Companies. It is impossible to put into print all that we would wish to say about our well loved Chairman and of all the many and varied activities in which he has taken part during his wonderful career in the steel industry of Britain.Recognised throughout the world of steel as a shrewd, discerning person of the highest integrity, Sir John's retirement means more than a loss to our own Company, but is, indeed, a loss to the steel trade generally. We would take this opportunity, on behalf of all our readers, of wishing Sir John improved health and the opportunity to enjoy a well-earned retirement. We can only hope that we shall, from time to time, see him amongst us, particularly amongst his many aged pensioner friends, and those other activities in which he has always taken a profound interest.Mr Philip Holloway, our Managing Director, who has been associated with the Corporation for many years, and a Director since 1951, has been appointed Chairman of the Corporation and of its principal Subsidiary Companies, Lancashire Steel Manufacturing Company Limited, RyIands Brothers Limited, Whitecross Company Limited and The Pearson & Knowles Engineering Company Limited, and has resigned his position as Managing Director of Lancashire Steel Manufacturing Company Limited on taking up this appointment. We tender to our new Chairman the congratulations of all our readers, knowing that he wilt receive the same support and encouragement which has been at all times, afforded to his predecessor. Mr G. Barrington Thomas has been appointed Managing Director, and has also been appointed to the Board of The Lancashire Steel Corporation Limited, and to him also we would tender the congratulations of all our readers.Mr G. K. Rylands, the Joint Managing Director of Rylands Brothers Limited and Whitecross Company Limited, has retired, and we would wish him well in his retirement after a long and active life in our industry where he has, without any question, proved himself a tremendous asset. Mr R . S. Bleckly has been appointed Managing Director of both Companies and Mr W. O. Copland has been appointed to the Board of Lancashire Steel Manufacturing Company Limited, to whom we would tender our congratulations knowing of his tremendous knowledge and interest in our industry. |
