| 説明 | These rails are between Zeckendorf and East Gate, running along a right-of-way behind a strip mall which faces Old Country Road -- "The Gallery at Westbury Plaza". As far as I can tell, they used to go all the way to Zeckendorf. It looks like when they were constructing the mall, they just shoved excess soil onto the right-of-way, which is why the rails and ties are buried in what Long Islanders laughingly call "soil" when they are gardening. In my backyard in Baldwin growing up, we had about six inches of sandy loam before you got into sterile sand. Hardly enough for G.I. Joe to hide in a foxhole. |
