James ‘Jim’ Kilby, Commander of the Naval Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center (SWMDC), speaks to junior surface warfare officers (SWO) at the Basic Division Officer Course (BDOC) at Naval Base San Diego. Kilby focused on leadership, tactics and the varied professional opportunites for SWOs: ship navigator, damage control assistant, and the new opportunity to become a Warfare Tactics Instructor. SMWDC was established June 2015 and is responsible for increasing the tactical proficiency of individual surface warfare communities through the creation of warfare doctrine, underway assessment exercises and Warfare Tactics Instructors. |
