| 説明 | During the winter months the BLM Nevada Winnemucca Black Rock Field Office and the Nevada Outdoor School (NOS) partnered to combine a winter hiking experience and environmental education to the Winnemucca community.The Nevada Outdoor School, in collaboration with the Winnemucca District, planned three winter snowshoe hikes; one each in the months of December through February. The first two hikes took place on brisk Saturday mornings and focused on the history and culture of Water Canyon and the seven Leave No Trace principles. The third hike was planned as an evening, moonlit snowshoe hike focusing on the various aspects of night hiking.These family friendly hikes were held despite the lack of snow, with the events resulting in a nice winter hike. Each event yielded members of the public and several youth from the community. The educational component was taught by Jessica Snaman, NOS Director of Programming. Other members of NOS and BLM staff attended to contribute historical information and to aid in the safety aspects of the hikes themselves. Afterwards, everyone enjoyed hot cocoa and tea and companionship.Pictured here, NOS Director, Snaman, leads a group of hikers up the canyon trail, explaining the surrounding habitat, culture, and history of the area.
