説明 | Red Cow Farm, Sutton Forest. This garden 5-acre garden is fairly unique in Australia. It has adopted the Gertrude Jekyll approach of garden “rooms.” It has 20 garden rooms including a bog garden, lake side garden, woodland garden, orchard garden, Monastery garden, Abbesses garden etc all with roses, perennial plants, European trees, topiary, statues, gargoyles etc. Often described as the best private Australian garden. Watch for the Red Cows! Sutton Forest. Early buildings include the site of the 1833 Talbot Inn replaced with a new hotel in the 1930s; the original wooden Anglican church from 1845 which was replaced with a stone one in 1861- designed by Edmund Blacket; the Catholic Church built 1870 replacing an earlier Catholic school room(1856) which was also used as a place of worship; the state school room 1871; the old Post Office 188; and the village hall 1890. Hillview house on the highway was for many years the summer residence of the Governor from 1882 until it was sold in 1958. |
