説明Historic Throsby Park estate was taken up by Dr Charles Throsby as a 1,000 acre free land grant property given by Governor Macquarie in 1819 but the land was not surveyed until 1822. Dr Throsby had no children and the estate passed to a nephew also named Charles Throsby. He had 17 children! It was this second Charles Throsby that built the fine Georgian style house in 1836 with 27 rooms. His uncle Charles Throsby lived on the estate in a wooden cottage built in 1823. Its outbuildings, barns (1828) and a worker’s cottage all remain on the property. In the 1860s the Governors of NSW spent their summer holidays here. Australian painter Conrad Martens painted the house as it appeared in 1836. Six generations of Throsby family lived here until they donated it to the government of NSW in 1975. In 2010 the Historic Houses Trust of NSW sold the leasehold of the house for forty years for $2.5 million to Tim Throsby, another descendant. The conditions of the lease require Mr Throsby to open the gardens to the public at least once a year. Tim Throsby also purchased the adjoining property for $1.4 million in 2007.
