説明This is a Tuck's Oilette first published in April 1908. It shows a Yeoman of the Guard, the Guard was formed in 1485 after the battle of Bosworth Field as a bodyguard for the reigning monarch. The Tudor uniform is similar to that worn by the Yeoman warders of the Tower of London but they are separate bodies. The headquarters of the Guard are at St. James's Palace and are used in the numerous ceremonials carried out by the monarch during the year, the most famous of which is the search of the Palace of Westminster cellars before the monarch attends the State opening of Parliament. They also attend Buckingham Palace Garden parties and the Maundy Thursday ceremony at Westminster Abbey. At the time of the postcard only former non commissioned officers of the army aged over forty two and holders of the Long Service and Good Conduct medal could be considered for the post. Recently former Royal Navy ratings have been included. The Yeoman of the Guard portrayed is wearing four medals, from left to right they are the Victorian Long Service and Good Conduct medal, the India General service medal, the Indian mutiny medal and what I think is the Crimea medal, if anyone knows differently, please let me know.
