| 説明 | This short tunnel with a length of 70 m is the access from Andermatt to the Devil's Bridge and the Schöllenen Gorge. The Matterhorn Gotthard Railway runs outside the rocks in the extended gallery. Because the road is closed there are maintenance works carried out. This tunnel was the first tunnel of an alpine road and is already more than 300 years old. It was completed in 1708, and consisted of raw rock. The tunnel was built at that time to replace a bridge named Twärrenbrücke which was destroyed by the forces of nature again and again. The Twärrenbrücke was a bridge, that was hanged at the rock with chains around 1220. A first description of a journey over the Gotthard dates from 1234. Switzerland, June 11, 2015. |
