説明 | As a boy, David McIntosh spent too many bitterly cold winters hugging a coal fired stove in Glasgow, dreaming of hot summers and wide open spaces where he could escape the foul stench of the city. He settled in Wyoming after working for a large international mining company where he was transplanted months at a time in nearby Montana. After losing his way on road trip to Colorado, one day he found himself, by accident, staring at the very place he had always felt in his heart. For 14 years, he lived alone with his terrier, Danny, after his wife, Ruby, passed. Ruby, a local gal, never ventured further than the border so, at times, David seemed to her like a creature from a far off planet. His thick Scottish accent only heightened his mysteriousness as time passed. Perched on a wide, rolling, hill at the foot of some magnificent cliffs, was their modest log cabin that he and Ruby built together. They named it Tennyson Downs. It was a name David had stitched together from something that he could, at the present time, no longer fully remember. He had never forgotten the two words and the way they made him feel as they resonated in his mind. One long winter, critically low on supplies and out of options, he pulled on his boots over his thickest, winter socks and began the rigorous descent to the nearest town - Danny in tow. After seventeen days of searching, it was decided to call off the crews - David (and Danny) was, officially, never seen again. Just about every person in town had their own theory about why he left his cabin. Many simply thought that his loneliness finally got the better of him. And Danny had slowed down that year after being bitten by a rattlesnake while chasing a rabbit along the front fence. The incident slowly unwound David's optimism for the future. And although Danny pulled through, David knew it was just a matter of time until he would face the future alone. The present owners of Tennyson Downs claimed to have seen old 'Mac' and Danny from their back porch a few summers back as the two made their way across the back of the property and up through the long grass to the face of Jasper Peak. They didn't respond when signaled. A couple of shots were fired, in vain, to attract their attention but did nothing. They have never been seen since. Wyoming, USA. |
