説明 | White Bird Canyon in northern Idaho was the site of the first battle between the Nez Perce indian tribe and the US Army. In 1877 a column of US Army soldiers was heading toward a Nez Perce village down this canyon to force the tribe from their ancestral lands and into a reservation to make room for white settlers. About 70 Nez Perce warriors, with superior horseman skills and knowledge of the terrain, attacked the soldiers, killing about 80 and forcing a retreat. No Nez Perce were killed in the battle. |
